Seijin no Hi :D

Attention: I posted THREE posts today, so make sure you read ALL of them! Arigatou ^^

Today is Seijin no Hi! Aka Coming of Age Day. It's a day in Japan that commemorates all those who have turned 20 in the past year - like yours truly ;)
So I got the day off from school today :)
And my entire host family was off too. While Yuko prepared breakfast, Ken and Miyabi and I watched tv. There was this show on that showed one of the Coming of Age ceremonies. A bunch of hatachi (20 year old) girls in kimonos and elaborate hair pieces were crying as each of their fathers went up and read a letter he had written to her and it showed images of her as a child. It was really sweet.
For breakfast, Yuko made muffins with the craisins I brought. They were soooo good! She also made the adorable bunny apples again and I had two mikan which helped the bad cold I still have.

After breakfast I retreated to my room to study for the huge test I have tomorrow that I need to get above 80 on so I can get into the 400 level.
Here's my room btw:

My kotatsu.

My bed (not a futon, yay!)
I suck at making beds because I never do it. Like, what's the point if you're just going to mess it up later?
But I feel weird not making it here, since it's someone else's house.

Closet area.
It's a bigger room than I expected, so that's nice!
Yuko made me lunch later on. And then we had snack and tea time around 4. After we finished eating, Miyabi (with the help of Yuko) cutely asked me in English if I wanted to go for a walk.
I was like "sure!" and she started freaking out and screaming "YAY!" at the top of her lungs haha.
Yuko, Ken, Miyabi and I all went out with Meperu (aka Maple) the dog in the cold to walk. Meperu ended up being carried though because he's so tiny and didn't want to walk.
We walked to a park which Miyabi really likes. There, we all played on the see saw. Then Miyabi and I played on the bars. I showed her how I could do a back flip and front flip, and I heard Yuko comment to Ken in Japanese how awesome it was that I was hatachi and could still do all this haha.
Miyabi, Ken, and I played on the balance beam and the swings too.

Then we went back home. On the way home, this car stopped and the driver of the car behind it got out and started yelling. I think he was swearing because Yuko was like "ohhhh." I wondered if one of them had been hit, but Yuko told me he was just upset that the car in front of him was trying to park because he needed to get going and didn't want to wait. Jeez.
Miyabi, Yuko, and Ken invited me to go to the library and grocery store with them, but I decided to stay home and study and update my blog.

Ribbon with me on the heated carpet.

When they got back, we had udon for dinner. I keep forgetting to hold the bowl in my hands while I eat.
At dinner we talked about the difference between Japanese and American marshmallows haha. Everyone was shocked American marshmallows don't have jelly in them. Yuko kept talking about twisted marshmallows in America that are pink and green, but I had no idea what she was talking about!
After dinner we watched some tv and then I went back to study more.

  1. I've seen pink and green marshmallows here. They weren't twisted, though.

  2. Yeah I told her we had pink and green ones, but I'm not sure about twisted. Maybe on super fancy stuff like cruise ship desserts? Idk
